I call BS. The twist isn't obvious at the start, because players would believe that it's in service to the online mode. Only a few would see this Kojima craziness coming.

I finished it yesterday. That ending really is poor. Quiet's ending was better than that. I could swallow that he had a body double, but they should've dropped more hints about it.

I'm still playing MGSV (about 430 hours or so), but I am also replaying Peace Walker and, I have to say...technical achievements and open-world aside, PW is the better Metal Gear game. It brings in the MB management, army-building mechanics, puts the long codecs and cutscenes into tapes to make them optional, etc, but is still a real MGS game, with the classic narrative flow and wackiness. MGSV, for all its excellence on so many levels, is more like a spinoff or side-game, even more so than Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, which notably still had real codecs and a real support team with personalities and their own little story arcs, connections with personal, psychological stories as well as larger political and philosophical themes.

MGSV is one of the best video games ever made, in one way, and I play it every day and love it...but it is not the best Metal Gear game. It is great partially because of its connections to the other games, and their lesser graphics and controls can't dim their greatness. Since launch, I have replayed Snake Eater and MGR, and am now replaying PW, and it is the content of those that informs MGSV and makes it be anything but a shell. It can't stand on its own.

Loyalty to the end. You're all diamonds.

This is a decent article and I enjoy the general sentiment of it, but I still can't help but to feel how misguided it is despite its intention seemingly being good. I think all of us are feeling some sort of phantom pain in varying degrees when it comes to playing metal gear solid five. That being said, Based off what you typed, you clearly are going out of your way to find critical issu. On multiple occasions you identify occurrences within the video game, then you make the direct correlation that a certain thing occurring is there for problematic, when in fact that's not even true.

Although story is obviously important, MGSV is essentially a console version of Peace Walker and Peace Walker was great. Sure, MGSV isn't as hashed out as PW but it's upgrades are an industry inspiration. MGSV Also definitely reminded me of why I like videogames, much of which I've been avoiding to play lately because most of them are boring.

Lastly, it seems that you don't take into account how antiquated your ideas are. Bigboss is a legend, but a lot of legends are fictitious and exaggerated. They even say this in MGS4 when you first meet Big Mama.

Secondly, the fact you limit Big Bosses accomplishments to Big boss and get upset when it's not big boss goes against MGS1s message that genes aren't the only determining factor and MGS2 where memes can create more solid snakes. In MGSVs case, entire personas can be created. This is in the universe where is surgically attached arm can somehow take over personalities. This is in fact the one aspect but I still like the least in the entire running of the metal gear series

Anyway, MGSV should have been tweaked and had more content but it is what it is. And it's One of those rare moments where it's not a problem with the gameplay that's present, we are all experiencing phantom pain with the cut the content and the story that didn't meet our expectations. But when you take a step back and look at this game all over, other then the gross lack of dialogue by venom snake The game is far from bad

Serious question, wasn't Naked Snake's real name Jack rather than John?

This article just described how awesome the ending is. The author complains that "we never asked" this and that. And that´s absolutely right. Kojima has again delivered something we did not asked for. And also something we did not expect at all.

Kojima shows so much love for the fans. Like in MGS4 when he let us ride Rex in Shadow Moses. Now he placed us in Big Boss´s shoes, acknowleging us for all the time spent in his epic pentalogy (plus Peace Walker).

Not a lot of creators can thrash our expectations so badly and still deliver a top notch interactive experience that is mind provoking and a joy to play.
