The release of Mario Kart 8 has helped spur the Nintendo Wii U to better sales during the first quarter of fiscal year 2015, which is essentially April to June 2014. It sold 2.82 million units and the Wii U has managed to sell 510,000 units in that quarter. Nonetheless, Nintendo reported an operating loss of 9.47 billion yen ($92.6 million).
Wii U lifetime sales thus far are at 6.68 million units – not bad, considering the Xbox One has sold more than 5 million units in its lifetime and the PS4 has sold more than 7 million units. It’s a shame that Nintendo took much more time to reach this number but it’s still significant. Wii U software sales over its lifetime are at 36.67 million units thus far.
Meanwhile, Nintendo 3DS lifetime sales are at 44.14 million units with software sales at 171.49 million units. Nintendo still has a ton of awesome releases for this year including Bayonetta 2, Super Smash Bros. and much more. Stay tuned for more details on the same.
