Although i agree with most of all what you said, i don’t think that Sony and Microsoft will go completeley cloud, specially because USA and most countries in the world lack the infrastructure to do this.

Microsoft is already a service based company, their main market is OS and providing cloud based services to professionals.

But they have deep pockets, very deep pockets.
We’re talking about 85 billions in cash.

They could spend money on prostitutes, champagne and luxury hotels every day, per employee, they wouldn’t be able to spend it all.

Of course I’m exaggerating a tad, but Microsoft isn’t leaving anytime soon.

Sony isn’t going to “fall” per say, but mutate.

They’re trying to adapt to the market, they’re not competitive anymore in most markets they’re trying to compete in.

They bought Gaikai for a reason, it was a long term investment. They somehow knew that gaming, one day, will be all about streaming from cloud infrastructure, and not hardware based anymore.

It’s most likely Sony and Microsoft will both go the cloud route in 7 years. And when that happens, PC’s and consoles as we know them now, are going to disappear for good.

People won’t bother paying thousands of dollars for hardware anymore, if all they need is a $99 PS TV device and a Dualshock to play 4k games at 60fps (assuming you have the Internet broadband).

Of course this is just speculation again, but thats my vision of the video game market for the next-generation.

Apple products are overpriced stuff, good quality but expensive, also i like when people still say that Sony is doomed since 2007 LOL.

I’m sorry but thats certainly not the case.

In the 90s Sony had a good reputation and the best TV’s around, but not anymore. Now it’s just Samsung TV’s with Sony stamped on them.

They will be dependent of Samsung and LG technology again, because they won’t have the infrastructures to build OLED panels (if they still sell TV’s at that time).

They got rid of VAIO because it was sucking money, chances are they will do the same with the BRAVIA division on the long run.

it would be a stretch to say the PS4 saved Sony, but it greatly contributed.

If they want to keep surviving they’ll have to cut loose ends. Sony is most likely going to turn into a service based company, with movies, music and video games streamed through a unified platform (PS Now, PS TV, etc..).

Though that is just speculation, no one knows how it’s going to pan out.

But thats not impossible seeing their financial state since the PS3 launch. It kept going down hill at that moment.

So? They still have money to fund games and obviously they can afford time exclusives like Hellblade or No Man’s Sky also exclusive content like Destiny or Batman Arkham Knight

Yeah, only rumors, i remember there was rumours about PS4 stating that the console wasn’t going to be released.
