Media Create: Dragon Quest VII 3DS Remains on Top in Japan

The old-school RPG continues to dominate along with the 3DS.

Dragon Quest VII: Warriors of Eden premiered on the Japanese software sales charts last week and notched up an impressive 872,922 units sold. This week, it remains on top with 184,993 units sold for a total of 1,012,916 units in its short two week lifespan according to Media Create via Gematsu.

Meanwhile, Animal Crossing: New Leaf sold 78,178 units to take its lifetime total to 2,591,602 units. This was followed by New Super Mario Bros. 2 selling 11,784 units for a total of 1,922,492 lifetime sales.

The only Wii game on the top 5 is Taiko Drum Master Wii Super Wonderful Edition which sold 10,076 units. Meanwhile, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate remains in the same spot with 9,138 units sold this week.

If it weren’t apparent, the Nintendo 3DS is still the top console in Japan. Sony may have been dominating headlines but when it comes to raking in the moolah, Nintendo knows how to make it rain.

Though sales for the Nintendo 3DS XL and 3DS are down this week, both handhelds sold a decent 66,139 units and 89,050 units respectively. The PS3 is in third with 16,934 units sold, with the Wii U following at fourth with 10,744 units.
