Media Create Sales: Dying Light Debuts in Japan, Beaten by Fashion Video Game

Techland's open world survival horror is no match for Girls Mode 3.

Techland’s Dying Light has been an unrivalled success the world over each time it launched, but it only managed to secure second place in Japan for its first week at retail. According to the Media Create Charts, Girls Mode 3 on the 3DS actually beat it by debuting with 55,179 units sold. By comparison, Dying Light only 25,530 units on the PlayStation 4 in its first week.

Another new entry for Nintendo’s handheld, Future Card, sold 16,630 units in its debut week while Minecraft: PS Vita Edition averaged 12,175 units sold (lifetime units of 97,117). One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 is in fifth place despite the strong start but only sold 6,926 units in the past week for a total of 137,211 lifetime units. 3rd Super Robot Wars Z Tengoku Hen is in a similar spot, selling 6,542 units and averaging 143,154 units over its lifetime despite a strong launch on the PS Vita. At least it also averaged 129,581 units on the PS3 in its lifetime.

Mario Party 10 and Bloodborne are seventh and ninth place respectively with 5,991 units and 5,674 units sold respectively, average 118,433 units and 190,631 units over their respective lifetimes.
