Media Create Sales: The Wonderful 101 Collapses in Japan

Sells only 5,258 copies in its first week.

Even though the hype surrounding Platinum Games’ The Wonderful 101 was nothing befitting a Call of Duty or Battlefield, but since it’s one of the few third party Wii U exclusives to release for the platform, you would expect some kind of reaction. According to the latest Media Create Sales charts courtesy of Gematsu, The Wonderful 101 debuted at number 14 with 5,258 copies sold.

Yes, that’s the first week sales. No, we don’t know why.

What took the top five spots? Super Robot Wars OG Saga Masou Kishin III: Pride of Justice released on PS3 this week and claimed the top spot, selling 39,255 copies sold while Disney Magic Castle: My Happy Life and Mario & Luigi: Dream Team for the Nintendo 3DS ranked in at second and third with 20,881 units this week (227,508 lifetime sales) and 20,339 units (264,977 over its lifetime) respectively.

PS Vita games took up the fourth and fifth spots, with Super Robot Wars OG Saga Masou Kishin III: Pride of Justice came at fourth with 18,929 copies sold and Conception II selling 18,878 copies. How will this affect the game’s exclusivity and the fate of Bayonetta 2, which is also exclusive to the Wii U? We’ll soon find out.
