We don’t know who actually entered the 41st Siggraph Computer Animation Festival contest. It’s impossible to tell what Ryse “won over”. The award is for Ryse, not “Ryse on Xbox One”. It’s a near certainty that they applied to the contest using footage from the upcoming PC version running at 4k resolution and ultra settings.

The award states “Ryse is an eight hour game with an additional 110-minutes of linear storytelling content. The submission shows gameplay and cutscenes, both utilize the same assets and can be rendered in real-time.” Despite claiming the gameplay and cutscenes use the same assets, the cutscenes are almost all pre-rendered movies at least in the Xbox version.

In other words, this award is more about an unleashed PC version of Ryse than the Xbox version running at 900p and 25 FPS average with lower visual quality settings.

PS4 is the more powerful console, thus it has the potential for more computationally intensive visual calculations, that will generally be perceived as better by most. Ryse would obviously run better on PS4.

It seems most people are ignoring attempts to downplay PS4’s stronger hardware and buying PS4s anyway.

PCs and consoles have different pros and cons depending on THE CONSUMER’s needs. It’s only fanboys that think their opinions are “the truth” and try to prove them as absolutes.

“Will always look better on PC” assumes every PC is better than a PS4, which is wrong. Most PCs are worse than a PS4 in graphics performance.

Some gamers want a console, not a PC, and they want the best performance for their money on multiplatform games. That means PS4. Consoles are a viable business model and consumers have overwhelmingly chosen PS4.

Spec sheets are facts. Quantum Break will be a good game, but this article is about graphics performance and tech specs, not whether a game is going to be good or not.

You are glued to those Spec sheets, but where are the games to prove it? Why is it that a XB1 title (Ryse) is winning all the visual awards? There’s no point in saying one console is better then the other in graphics when the PS4 will never have the Xbox games. You go and play Drive Club and The Order, both receiving mediocre feedback from there gameplay while XB1 gamers experience Forza Horizon 2 and Sunset, games that are getting praise for fun gameplay.

Its ok to think Sony games will look better but when games like Quantum Break come out and is only on XB1 and PC and not on PS4 then its stupid, just like your spec sheets.

Better to have the game then not being able to play it in the first place. I feel sorry for you because these are the games your willing to miss out on because you believe that Spec sheets are the holy grail.

What’s the point of claiming better graphics when those games aren’t available on it…

Every console or gaming device has a power budget that can be put towards resolution, framerate, or visual effects. PS4 has a higher total budget than Xbox, and good PCs have an even higher budget.

Forza 5 or Horizon 2 would run better on PS4, and Driveclub would run worse on Xbox. Quantum Break would run better on PS4, and The Order would run worse on Xbox.

Not gonna move it closer or go buy a bigger TV because some over zealous fanboy tells me he swears he can spot a difference, lol! I like my TV. Everything looks great on it. Movies, games, TV. It’s important to note that texture quality, etc. are all the the same on the XB1 version, just the native resolution which is pretty close at around 900p. This is upscaled and output thru my nice looking, well calibrated 1080p TV and games look f’ing gorgeous on it. 900p Ryse won best real time gfx. How’d you like that?

Quit being a pixel counter and just enjoy the games dude. They look practically the same and yes, I do know the difference between res.

You shouldn’t be more than 8 feet from a 40″ TV, and honestly you should only be about 6 feet away to get the full benefit of 1080p. I have 20/20 vision as well and I can definitely tell the difference. Sorry you can’t. It looks noticeably better.
