Metroid fans are going to have something new to play at long last when Metroid Dread launches in a couple of weeks, but of course, those who’re desperate for more of Metroid Prime’s own unique offerings have been starved for some time now. Metroid Prime 4 continues to be an enigma, but even beyond that, countless leaks and rumours for several years running of a Metroid Prime remastered trilogy for the Switch have come to absolutely nothing.
Even so, those rumours refuse to go away, and now we have an interesting variation. Known Nintendo insider Emily Rogers recently said on Twitter that based on what she’s heard, Nintendo isn’t working on a full remaster of the entire trilogy, but for a re-release of just the first Metroid Prime game, with the plan being to release it in 2022 to coincide with the game’s 20th anniversary. Rogers says that she isn’t sure whether or not this means there won’t be a full remastered trilogy- but honestly, given Nintendo’s pricing and release policies, especially with re-releases and remasters, it wouldn’t come as much of a surprise to see just a single one of those being sold for a full $60.
Whether or not any of this ends up happening remains to be seen – you never know with Nintendo, after all, and Metroid Prime rumours in particular have had a spotty track record in recent years – but with a Nintendo Direct scheduled for later today, there’s a chance we hear something about this soon. Here’s hoping, anyway.
