The Scan Pulse is an awful ability. It completely eliminates the exploration and adventure aspects of the game. The whole reason it exists is because they wanted to make metroid, but they didn't want to make it according to the essence of what makes a Metroid game a Metroid game. So they created a fighting game and nerfed all the exploration and adventure aspects as much as possible so that you could focus on fighting, because that's so cool and all. 3/10 Never playing again after I beat it except maybe to make a video review if I ever get a capture card enabled 3DS.

I certainly hope not to see the melee counter at least as implemented in MSR in future games. That was probably the biggest antifeature because of how imbalanced everything in the game became. Instead of more metroid, we got a fighting game with a dark-souls "git gud m****rf**ker" feel and metroid chrome on top the latter of which ultimately ruined the former aspects once you finally got past the OP bosses with your Underpowered Samus. Worse, as the game progresses the counter becomes less and less important until it's not needed and yet it's still expected for some stupid reason to be the core game mechanic. Switching to Aeion Abilities is tacky when you already have to switch to missiles/super missiles. Samus feels glass jawed and weak until you have that melee counter down to a science (and even then, you WILL get hit, and IT WILL hurt, and you WILL die... A FREAKING LOT FOR NO GOOD REASON). I honestly feel like this is not much better than Other M but for different reasons. Meanwhile, AM2R remakes the game to the point that I would tell people not to even bother playing either canonical nintendo second installment.

I've been playing this game since I got it for Christmas and I've almost beaten it and I've hated playing it. The only reason I've persisted is the same reason I'll eventually get around to beating Other M: It's still a Metroid game technically. I can't dismiss it as a spinoff like Federation Force or Hunters (though I'd like to play the latter). I sincerely hope that MercurySteam does not get the privilege of future 2D Metroids or that if they do, they don't do to them what they did to Metroid II.
