It is called a “choice” and usually in life those things (choices) are good to have. What you are saying is that you are okay with a gimped system that could have had more capabilities than it actually does for a simple $18 more on productions costs….? Sony has made money on these systems since day one….unlike the PS3 which bled red for more than three plus years.

And for those advantages of “not owning” your streamed media…..?! Yeah because there aren’t any as your movies you never owned are never “always” there. Always being removed/moved around for their library’s sake….not the consumers. A great feeling to want to sit down and watch your (not truly your movie) just to find that it is not longer available to “stream….” Convenience in this respect is a garbage cop-out as it is washed away by the fact that those movies are never guaranteed to be there for you all the time. A physical library will be and at a much better quality at that. And the idea that not all streaming services offer the same movies/services all together. People who buy into these services thinking they are truly getting anything else other than convenience are really kidding themselves.

And as for your 40hr+ gaming experience on that disc…..there would be a whole lot more on there if they had supported a SUHD Blu-Ray in their system. 100+gb discs anyone….?! I would have bought this system with the player built in, but not this overpriced gimped system. They are going to release an “improved system” by the time the Scorpio is dropped and that will more than likely support SUHD disc playback.

Yes but if you have a disc player you have to make use of it, or it’s not worth having, is it. That means you have to buy expensive movie discs to play on it and they only give you 2 hours entertainment each.

Gamers are different. They want a 40 hour game for the same money and they want it on disc so that when the game server closes down in the future, they will still have their game purchase to re-instal. Only the naive and short sighted gamers who don’t understand future implications of that concept are buying into the digital download thing.

Streaming media has the advantage that you don’t need to own the media because you can always stream your favourite classic movie at a cheap price from any number of suppliers even if your current supplier closes down.

But the small number of home cinema enthusiasts will always choose disc based media because it’s superior at any cost.
