In reply to <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/microsoft-is-really-serious-about-4k-gaming#comment-296875">Mark</a>.

What he stated is from his experience as a dev and he is right, but what (in my humble opinion) he doesn’t account for is
the absurd pace the tech is evolving (software and HW wise) and the ingenuity of some devs i.e. back compat, which according to MS themselves wasn’t feasible at one point… so the 40 TFlops might be achievable with a dedicated chip +
software in less time than we could imagine. There are some really smart people in the industry that will probably create an algorithm that was deemed unfeasible not so long ago.

The question is how will the Scorpio be designed, that is if the 4k is the only thing their aiming for with it and how much is
MS willing to spend on the R&D.

If they go and put some proprietary tech inside (perhaps a colab with AMD on that) we might see some amazing results.

In regards to what will devs be aiming for, depends on the dev, but I’m hopping for a balance between gfx, physics, AI,
resolution/fps etc. as making a game super realistic, but having horrible animations/physics deters from the realism that the gfx provide and that's all besides the main argument of the scorpio AKA native 4k ... for now at least.

Wow man Tim brought me back to reality with that one, ahaha. So I guess the question I have now is, should developers focus more on animations and human expression than say, I don't know, graphics? Would we be more impressed with amazing animations, but that only has subpar graphics due to the GPU and CPU reserving its resources to physics and animation? I think it's a good question. And how close will the Xbox 4 & PS4 come to realism?

I do remember that and it will be interesting to see what MS comes up with to include it in games - that is HW and software
wise.

I’ve been hearing a lot of positive stuff about HDR, but I’m taking a wait and see approach here - well at least until the gears bundle arrives =)

Btw not directly related but still interesting to hear from an industry vet - http://wccftech.com/sweeney-need-40-tflops-render-photo-realistic-dynamic-environments-humans-require-computing-power/

Well I think Phil mentioned Ray Tracing a few yrs back. In an interview he stated that they looked into advanced lighting techniques, and HDR lighting was the solution found. So maybe next gen we'll see that as the hardware should be capable. But I'm excited to see HDR in action for now
