Uninspired? Why, because it is set in The Lord of the Rings universe? Name one good LoTR action game since the PS2 era. War in the North was a disgrace and a total chore to play and was barely reminiscent of Middle Earth. The only enjoyable LoTR games of this generation have all been strategy games. I think the developers of this game saw a niche that needed filling and decided to fill it. On top of that, what LoTR game has ever let you explore Mordor in-depth? None. Sure it would have been nice to have the option to explore elsewhere, but Mordor is actually a rather vast and potentially very interesting area if you look at it in terms of open-world exploration. The storyline, too, is totally unique, instead of a copy-and-paste plot to stop Sauron and save all of Middle Earth. Instead it focuses on a totally new protagonist and his personal vendetta against the evil of Mordor. After all, this was before Mordor or Sauron were once again a threat to Middle Earth. I can understand why this game might look unappealing to a non-LoTR fan or someone without respect for the lore, or to a brainless and blind Assassin's Creed fanboy whining about how this game is copying AC's fighting style. If you watch the gameplay reveal you will see that the game is chock-full of interesting elements, such as the nemesis system and the ability to basically mind-control enemies into doing your bidding. Judging by how one-sided this post is, I highly doubt you have any interest in LoTR, or even good action games for that matter. Assassin's Creed has never had co-op and has prospered, so why would you consider that a weak point of any open-world third-person action game? Hopefully you'll consider at least some of what I said and make future posts at least somewhat less biased.
