Minecraft 2 Won’t Happen “For the Foreseeable Future”

Mojang's Jonas Martensson says the developer is looking to continually improve the current game.

Mojang announced a Windows 10 version of the popular sandbox builder Minecraft and this represents the developer’s commitment to the current game for the future. Speaking to IGN, Mojang CEO Jonas Martensson said that there are currently no discussions for a sequel and that Minecraft will likely be supported till 2020 or so.

“First of all, there’s been no discussions about Minecraft 2 at the moment. I can’t promise forever there’ll never be a Minecraft 2, but for the foreseeable future there won’t be.”

It also seems that Microsoft hasn’t been pushing Mojang for a sequel either, with Microsoft Game Studios GM Matt Booty viewing the process differently. “The way to think about it is more to do with continual updates and a continual process.”

Minecraft 2 could eventually happen but it just won’t be anywhere close to now. Minecraft for Windows 10 is currently in beta but stay tuned for more information on the same in the coming months.
