More People Use Nintendo Switch As A Handheld Than As A Console

Is it a handheld or a console? Why not both?

The Nintendo Switch’s core appeal is its hybrid nature- it can be a console and a handheld, both! And that’s excellent, considering the modern millennial lifestyle, which is active and mobile, and rarely leaves time for people to spend planted in front of a TV for a multi hour long gaming session.

However, the larger question of how the larger market chooses to perceive the Switch has been one that has persisted in all Switch related discussions for a while, now- is it a home console? Or is it a handheld? What do people think?

According to a report Nintendo generated based on collection of data from Switch systems connected online, 30% of the people who use Switch primarily use it undocked, so either in handheld or tabletop mode (only 2% of these players use it primarily in tabletop mode, actually); 20% of the people use it primarily as a console, with the remaining 50% of the players using it substantially across all of its modes.

More than anything, I feel that this demonstrates the versatility of the Switch, and just how well it has resonated with people.
