Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, the upcoming fourth installment in Ubisoft’s flagship franchise, seems to be fully embracing its central, pirate theme, as evidenced by the trailer above. As a matter of fact, just watching it cursorily, you wouldn’t be blamed for mistaking it for a Pirates of the Caribbean game, or something- it has similar shots, from bars and ‘lusty wenches’ to the same kinds of sword fights, the same kinds of treasure, shot in the same way, and even the hangings that provided such a haunting beginning to Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.
It will be interesting to see how the title ties into the larger, increasingly convoluted and dissatisfying overarching Assassin’s Creed narrative, just as it will be interesting to see if the series can hit its Assassin’s Creed II day heights after popular consensus views last year’s entry as largely disappointing.
In any case, you can be assured that the game will be fun, and that we will be here to cover it all along.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag launches later this year for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, and PC.
