New Details For Torchlight MMO

Torchlight certainly managed to wow us all last year when it was released, with its refreshing fusion of classic point and click adventures, and Diablo-esque loot collection mechanics. And while the cult classic has often had numerous criticisms levelled at it for being highly single player oriented, there have been talks of an MMO based on the breakthrough single player experience.

Now, PCGamer UK has revealed some details about this strongly anticipated title- apparently, Torchlight the MMO will be a free-to-play game supported by microtransactions, which is odd, considering the developers’ aversion to microtransactions, as they have expressed many times in the past.

Even more interesting is the game design:

“Our vision is to have an MMO that plays as close to single player as we can get it. It will have the same focus on relatively fast action: carving your way through hordes of monsters with a large number of hugely devastating skills. The game has to be solo-able, but players will have to have skills that make them useful in a party and make them work together.”

That certainly sounds like a novel take on the idea. As far as I can make out, it’s almost just the same as Torchlight, just with more players plonked on to the field. Will it turn out good? We can only hope.
