New details for Medal of Honor: Warfighter have arrived, shedding some light on the game’s setting and story elements.
According to developers Danger Close, “the action [in the game] focuses on hotspots often overlooked by the media, in places like the Philippines, Somalia, Pakistan, Yemen and more.” The antagonist is called Abu Sayyaf. He’s part of an “Islamist separatist group with ties to Al-Qaeda”.
“The group appeared in the early 1990s, with the stated goal of creating an Islamic theocracy in Basilan,” Danger Close explains. “They have primarily acted through bombings, kidnappings, assassinations and extortion which fund the group’s continued operations. The group utilizes whatever weapons they can access and relies on grenades, improvised explosive devices (primarily derived from land mines), machine guns, RPGs and more.”
“Tier 1 Operators are sent into this scenario in the midst of a typhoon to rescue government workers taken hostage by the Abu Sayyaf,” writes the dev, talking about what the exact setting of the game itself is. “This mission starts them on a hunt for a much bigger target and an even greater global danger.”
The game sure sounds pretty interesting. We’ll keep you posted as more info comes our way. Stay tuned till then.
