New The Wonderful 101 Director’s Cut Trailer And Nintendo Direct Video Air

Two in depth looks at the Wii U exclusice title

Two new videos for the upcoming Wii U title, The Wonderful 101 have been released.

The first is a director’s cut trailer, which gives us a closer look at some of the individual characters we will see in The Wonderful 101. The “friends of justice,” who make up The Wonderful 101 are supposed to represent the best combined forces of the whole of planet earth. In doing so, the team is comprised of a whole host of multi-cultural stereotypes, guaranteed to either delight or offend any and all who partake. Additionally, the director’s cut trailer gives us a close view at the alien scourge plaguing earth, and a look and the in-game battle systems.

The second video, The Wonderful 101 Nintendo Direct presentation, is a much more in depth look at some of the more nuanced mechanics of the game. The presenter reveals that at the outset of the game, players will not be have access to all 101 heroes, in fact not even close to that number. As the game progresses, additional heroes of earth can be found and recruited in your quest to find them all and defeat the invading aliens.

The goal of The Wonderful 101 is not simply to find all playable characters and defeat the alien race: Civilian casualty prevention is also high on the list of priorities, and in every mission, there will be civilians in need of help. Players can save them by circling their position on the Wii U touch pad. Additionally, energy can be transferred over to these civilians, giving them temporary hero abilities and making them useful allies.

The video also gives us a look at some of the specialized battle mechanics that can be accomplished with having such a fluid and dynamic assembly of so many team members. It goes into particular detail about one skill, the Unite Morph ability, which has all of your team members morphing into one fluid formation which takes on certain abilities and characteristics.

The Wonderful 101 releases in North America on September 15th for the Wii U.
