The Wii U had a massive day 1 firmware with reports pegging it at 1GB to 5GB, and when faced with a power failure, brick was imminent. There’s a second firmware update that has gone live for the system, and it is 600 MB in size with people reporting at least 5 hours to download it.
Hey, Nintendo, that’s not supposed to happen. Even with my meager 4 mbps connection, I should be able to download it in just 30 mins, but it’s something that has got to do with Nintendo’s online service than any other issues.
Considering it’s a new system there’s a possibility of a lot of people trying to access it and it’s slowing things down. We will never know though, but for now the blame goes to Nintendo.
It is not clear what the new firmware does and we don’t really have a lot of information on this yet, but we will keep you updated. You can check out our Wii U review here.
