The Nintendo 3DS is now more than seven years old, but continues to receive active support from Nintendo, in the way of new hardware models, new SKUs, new games, and yes, new firmware updates, of which it seems to have gotten one. Update 11.8.0-41 was released for the system yesterday, and… yup, you guessed it. It does absolutely nothing. That’s right, folks, this is one of those much vaunted stability updates!
The official update notes read, “further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience”, but the homebrew and hacking scene is reporting that the DSi firmware on board the system (which is used to boot the DSiWare games on it) has been altered, in turn patching several exploits in the system and locking out custom firmware like Luma.
As far as stability goes, at this point, my 3DS is probably far more stable than even the Super Stable 3D Nintendo advertised the New 3DS models with back in 2015.
