In the Wii era, Nintendo blazed a new trail with their iconic advertisements around the world for their DS and Wii line of products. Slogans such as ‘Touching is Good,’ ‘Touch Generations,’ and, perhaps most importantly, ‘Wii Would Like To Play,’ completely sold their hardware to over 250 million people worldwide.
Then, somehow, they lost it, fumbling the marketing for their 3DS and Wii U products so bad that brand confusion around both those systems exists to this day. It also does not help that most people don’t even know that these products (well, the Wii U, mostly, since the 3DS is advertised fairly well at this point) even exist, because Nintendo won’t market them.
At least they seem to have learned. After a series of embarrassing ads for the Wii U and its flagship game over the holidays, Super Mario 3D World, Nintendo has now started the marketing campaign for Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, and it actually looks halfway decent; who knows, if they actually continue marketing their products this way, they might even sell some more of them!
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze for its part looks pretty darn amazing. Stay tuned for our review.
