E3 might not be around this year, but we’ve still had a packed Summer season with plenty of events from major companies, and a few more still to come. One company that’s stayed noticeably out of action, however, is Nintendo. Though the Japanese giant was rumoured to be planning a Nintendo Direct presentation for mid-June, it seems that is not the case- but a new leak seems to indicate that a Direct is indeed coming a little later than previously expected.
Influencer, developer, and journalist Alanah Pearce – formerly of IGN and currently a writer at SIE Santa Monica Studio – recently said in a stream that a she’s been told a Nintendo Direct presentation is planned for June 29 (skip to 1:59:10 through here).
“Is there a Nintendo Direct announced?” she said. “No, but I believe that there is a Nintendo Direct coming on the 29th. I don’t know that that’s been announced, you heard it here first. June 29, Nintendo Direct. It’s not technically a leak because Nintendo didn’t tell me.”
This was soon corroborated by Nintendo insider Direct-Feed Games (a.k.a. Nate the Hate) who took to Twitter and said that the Direct was always planned for late June and hasn’t been delayed. Depending on the time zone, it’s planned for June 28 or June 29. VGC has also corroborated Pearce’s claims in its own report.
Of course, one can never be too sure about leaks, especially when it comes to Nintendo, but Nintendo has generally had big Direct presentations in June of almost every year, so it’s very much in the realm of possibility.
