Nintendo Executive Confirms Company is “Researching New Console Hardware”

At last, the Nintendo NX.

Nintendo has made the comeback of a lifetime with the Nintendo Switch, which launched last year, proceeded to break all sorts of records worldwide, attract the most third party support Nintendo has seen in years, and deliver some of the best games Nintendo has put out in a while. But a company like Nintendo is always working on the next big thing- so it should come as no surprise to anyone that they have already started researching new console hardware.

In an interview with BBC, Nintendo’s Shinya Takahashi dropped a snippet, confirming that the company is always researching new hardware, and that it has started researching its next console already. “Nintendo constantly works on hardware, so we have been doing research and development. So you may see the new system sometime in the future,” he said.

Nintendo, of course, is not unique in working on their new hardware right after their old one is out- Sony and Microsoft are both also known for this, of course, and Nintendo’s former rival Sega used to do it too (and in fact overdid it to such an extent that they flooded the market with poorly supported hardware, leading to their eventual demise… it’s a sad, cautionary story).
