That would be great...... except for the fact that, other than a $400 million dollar loss in 2013, they have made 35 billion from the gaming industry since 1985. That being said, Nintendo isn't going anywhere; doubly so since they have now plunged into mobile gaming.

Furthermore, while it does seem appeasing for them to go said route, they would be losing more money going that way than without. Keep in mind the third party space is competitive enough. Yes Nintendo does have the IP to combat it, but in this era where games like Call of Duty, Mass Effect, Grand Theft Auto, Street Fighter and others run rampant, such odds are not in Nintendo's favor. Even something like Legend of Zelda or a Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars sequel will get beat sales wise should said game launch alongside something like Grand Theft Auto in the same week. Nintendo should, and most likely will, stay in the console business (however long it lasts). Sure the sales of the Wii U and 3DS do not live up to their predecessors, but profit off both is key for them. I am sure NX will be an improvement when it comes out.

Let's give Nintendo a chance. One poorly sold generation isn't going to doom them if they are profiting off of each console sold. Furthermore, I do not think the NX will be as difficult to market either.

i think it is time for nintendo to stop making consoles and just focus solely on game development. they have some amazing IP and could make a killng if they sold it on xbox, playstation,pc, etc. I mean lets be honest, 3rd party developers havent looked at nintendo as a viable console in many many years. i personally would love some paper mario on my computer :)

I think the reason Nintendo, is keeping NX as a enigma, is to build anticipation and hype. But it's sad, that once the NX is released, they'll stop making software for the wii u and 3ds.
