Nintendo Make Profit Of $290 Million In FY2015-16, Wii U Sales At 13.3 Million, 3DS Sales At 59.9 Million

Software sales were the real star here again.

Nintendo have just released their annual report for the financial year which just concluded for them on June 30, and on the whole, it’s more or less good news for them. They continued to make money, posting an operating profit of $290 million for the year, and they managed to sell 3.26 million Wii U units, as well as 6.79 million 3DS units, over this period.

The true star for them, however, was their software, yet again- Wii U software sales stood at 27.36 million units worldwide, while 3DS sales stood at a hefty 48.52 million- their software was undoubtedly buoyed by hits released in this period such as Yoshi’s Wooly World, Super Mario Maker, Splatoon, Fire Emblem Fates, and Pokken Tournament.

Global sales of the Nintendo 3DS now stand at 59.9 million units, while the Wii U is at 13.3 million units. This makes both these systems the lowest selling Nintendo handheld and console respectively- hopefully, going forward with the NX, Nintendo can regain the kind of market performance that they used to be known for in the past.

For now, I am sure the company is just glad to be pulling a profit once again, after years of loss.
