Though there’s still a bunch of unconfirmed reports about the Nintendo NX – including rumours of detachable controllers and whatnot – one thing is somewhat clear: It will be a totally new thing for Nintendo.
As per IGN’s recent Nintendo Video Chat which contained information from internal sources and NX developers, one studio who spoke to Peer Schneider called the platform a “reboot” for Nintendo. This could possibly mean a return to cartridges and possibly going back to the glory days of platforms like the NES and SNES.
Schneider’s sources also discussed how the NX was essentially a portable device that could dock to one’s TV to play games. As for other aspects, Peer himself is convinced that the NX will use memory cards much like how the 3DS handles its cartridges. A Share button is also possible though the “split D-pad” seems a little iffy, especially when Nintendo marketing has been focusing on it a lot recently. The NX will also apparently use infra-red though it won’t be the main means of controlling the games.
Detachable controllers were described as low budget and it’s possible they attach to the system. SCD with a dock and additional hardware also seems possible while Just Dance will probably use something to measure what you’re doing while playing.
Meanwhile, a 720p resolution has been cited as “credible” and “very highly likely”. Again, take all of this with a grain of salt and stay tuned to more information. The Nintendo NX is currently set to release by March 2017.
Thanks, Reddit.
