Nintendo NX Is Reportedly Using Vulkan API, Custom Polaris GPU, Lots of Games In Development

Nintendo's next console seems to be just what this console market may need.

While the Nintendo NX is still an enigma, at least as far as the official information regarding it goes, we’re learning more and more about it due to leaks and highly well placed insiders. Leaks for the NX are getting more and more numerous by the day, and while anything not official can’t be taken as completely true, there is the simple fact of the matter that when all the leaks agree on most of the particulars, they might in fact be indicative of what the NX will really be like- where there is smoke, essentially, there is fire.

How much of this is true, and how much just someone throwing darts, remains to be seen. The Nintendo NX’s official reveal is slated to be near the end of this month, although that, too, has not yet been officially confirmed- so one way or the other, we should be learning about the Nintendo NX some time soon.

This new rumor for the NX needs to be taken with a few heaps of salt – even the leaker admits he isn’t entirely sure of its veracity – but it is what it is. Some of the particulars of this new leak include:

  • The Nintendo NX does have at least one controller with a screen, which is meant to be an enhanced evolution of the Wii U Pad. It is not meant to be a replacement for a proper handheld, though.
  • Luigi’s Mansion 3 is in fact in development for the NX.
  • The NX will use a custom Polaris-like GPU, and it is likely to be on a FinFET 14nm fabrication node.
  • The NX’s rumored specs will place it in the same league of power as the rumored PlayStation 4K.
