An assessment of the Nintendo NX leaks from yesterday by MCV UK, a site dedicated to analyzing trends in the UK retail market, seems to conclude that the new console may end up being cheaper than anyone expects- with retailers claiming that Nintendo do not wish to repeat the mistake of overpricing their console, which caused the Wii U and 3DS to both struggle at the market.
According to the reports, Nintendo is aiming for the mass market with this device- which certainly stands in line with some comments we have heard from major publishers, who all believe that the NX will end up recapturing the Wii crowd. Nintendo are therefore expected to price the system low enough for it to appeal to a large market.
How cheap would that be? Given that the Wii U was, and still is, $299, Nintendo may not even price the NX that high, if these reports are to be believed. With the Wii, which remains Nintendo’s most successful console, being priced at $249 at launch, and with the NX having a degree of sophisticated technology, due to its multiple form factors, $249 may be the price point that Nintendo go for.
