Nintendo chief executive Satoru Iwata has clarified in a recent meeting with investors that the company’s mobile-centric gaming console, the NX, will not be at E3 2015. In fact, the device won’t be specifically detailed until 2016.
As translated by Kotaku, Iwata said that, “We do not plan on talking specifics about the NX until 2016.” He was also fairly sketchy about what the NX specifically was, with the company “calling it a ‘new concept’…not thinking of [it] as a ‘simple replacement’ for the 3DS or the Wii U.”
Don’t expect to see quality of life or smartphone games at E3 2015 either. “Since we understand that E3 is an event for dedicated video game machines, we do not intend to discuss the smart devices as well as quality of life.”
Iwata’s reasoning for announcing the NX so early, along with plans to develop mobile games, was reaffirm its stance towards console gaming. We’ll have to wait till next year for more details but in the meantime, don’t expect any NX information at E3.
