Nintendo NX Will Suprise Fans With New Ideas And Not Build On Old Ones

The big question to ask right now is whether it will pay off.

We’re still waiting for solid information about just what the Nintendo NX is all about, but the company is starting to talk more about the console than they have in the past. Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima just put his thoughts about the upcoming console in print. In the Japanese newspaper, Mainichi Shimbun he laid out at least some of his thoughts behind the console including the fact that Nintendo is attempting to actually make fans happy with some new ideas, rather than the same old failed ones for the Nintendo NX and that they will release new details this year.

Twitter user serkantoto went through the trouble of actually deciphering what he said in the interview and it turns out that part of the new ideas are the company’s plans to further diversify their offerings. The company has teased fans about moving to the mobile platform but it appears we’re still a couple of months away from seeing much payoff from that move. Still, making games for the iOS and Android platforms certainly count as coming up with new ideas, rather than rehashing the old ones.

The Nintendo president said that mobile gamers will be able to see some rather familiar faces on their iPads and iPhones this year. It’s pretty clear that Nintendo has some big plans for 2016 and the near future. The company is looking to be bringing in more than 100 billion yen a year in several years time. That would actually be four times as much profit as the company saw last year. The first step is releasing the concept work for the NX which is supposed to be coming in May or June.
