Nintendo Responds to Switch Joy-Con Issues: “We Are Aware of Recent Reports”

"We are continuously making improvements," says Nintendo.

The Nintendo Switch, like any piece of widely sold hardware, has issues that a fair number of people have been experiencing. The one most commonly experienced is Joy-Con drift, which sees the analog sticks in the system’s Joy-Con controllers reading movement in one direction even when none is being input.

The issue has become so widespread (or annoying, at the very least), in fact, that Nintendo now faces class action lawsuit because of it. Now, the company has finally responded to The Verge in a statement, claiming that they’re aware of the issues, and encouraging those facing these problems to visit their support page.

“At Nintendo, we take great pride in creating quality products and we are continuously making improvements to them,” says Nintendo. “We are aware of recent reports that some Joy-Con controllers are not responding correctly. We want our consumers to have fun with Nintendo Switch, and if anything falls short of this goal we always encourage them to visit http://support.nintendo.com so we can help.”

The timing of their response is intriguing, to say the least. Beyond the fact that Nintendo is allegedly selling faulty Joy-Cons, not conveying the existence of the defect to consumers, and also asking consumers to pay for repairs, the aforementioned lawsuit also faulted Nintendo for not admitting to or responding to the Joy-Con drift issue.

That the company has done so now is (hopefully) a sign that the lawsuit has forced them to be more attentive toward the issue and to making sure that it doesn’t resurface with future hardware- especially since not only does the regular Switch have a revision coming up, but they’re also launching the handheld-only Switch Lite later in the year.
