Nintendo Revealing New Consoles, Devices in 2015 – Satoru Iwata

Nintendo still keeping its distance from the smartphone market though.

Take this how you will but after a recent financial briefing revealed that Nintendo was planning an NFC peripheral for its 3DS, president Satoru Iwata stated in a recent interview with Bloomberg that the company wanted to release new consoles and devices for emerging marks in 2015.

“We want to make new things, with new thinking rather than a cheaper version of what we currently have. The product and price balance must be made from scratch.”

We doubt these new “consoles” are really that but we’ll follow Iwata’s lead for now. Despite also planning a Mario Kart 8 app for smartphones, Iwata once again maintained that Nintendo wouldn’t be entering in smartphone development wholesale. “The smartphone market is probably more competitive than the console business. We have had a console business for 30 years, and I don’t think we can just transfer that over onto a smartphone model.”

Nintendo fans do have some good news though – apparently Bayonetta 2 and Monolith Soft’s X are still releasing this year for Wii U. Stay tuned for more details as E3 approaches.
