Nintendo Sold 160,000 Wii U Consoles in Past Three Months

Net profits are up at ¥8.6 billion or $88 million however.

In the past three months ending on June 30th, Nintendo’s Wii U console has only managed to sell 160,000 units in the past three months, which was broken up into 90,000 Wii U units in Japan, 60,000 units in the United States and 10,000 units in both Europe and Australia. Software sales totaled only 1.3 million units overall.

The company reported that net sales for amounted to about ¥81.5 billion ($832.6 million/£547.5 million) which is up 3.8 per cent and a net profit of ¥8.6 billion ($88 million/£57.9 million). Given how the company saw a loss of ¥17.2 billion in the same period a year prior (due to R&D for the Wii U and marketing costs for the 3DS), this is somewhat good news.

Nintendo has also reiterated its desire to sell 9 million hardware Wii U consoles and 38 million games for the full year. Luckily, the supposed cause of their misfortunes – a lack of first party titles – will be somewhat alleviated going forward. But will it be enough?
