Nintendo Switch and ARMS Top The Charts In Japan

ARMS' debut almost outsells Tekken 7 and Street Fighter 5 debuts put together.

The Nintendo Switch continues its unbroken reign at the top of the sales charts in Japan, with its numbers seeing a minor bump to about 37,000 units sold in the newest Media Create charts. Its numbers owe themselves to the sustained demand and interest in the new platform, and also to the new release of ARMS, Nintendo’s new fighting game IP, which topped the software charts with 100,000 units sold.

ARMS‘s performance is impressive- fighting games are largely dead in Japan, and ARMS, a brand new IP, has gone ahead and almost outperformed the debuts of long running bestselling fighting game franchises – Street Fighter 5  and Tekken 7 with – put together (it just fell short by a handful of units).

ARMS was followed by Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, both of which saw week on week increases in their sales, making this entire week a Nintendo themed one. With the upcoming releases of Dragon Quest 11 and Splatoon 2, it will be interesting to see how Japanese sales continue t fare in the coming weeks.
