Nintendo Switch and Mario Kart 8 Dominate Japanese Sales Charts In Another Great Week For Nintendo

No Blue Shell to stop either of them.

In Japan, the Nintendo Switch has consistently been the highest selling platform every week since its launch two months ago. So it shouldn’t surprise anyone that it was also the highest selling system in Japan last week- what should be interesting to note is that it increased its lead, selling 74,200 units in Japan last week. This is more than one and a half times all the other systems’ sales put together for the week.

The higher sales of the Switch can be attributed to the launch of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which, in what has become a habit for it worldwide now, ended up topping sales charts. It sold 280,000 units in Japan last week, and also ended up buoying the sales for the Switch version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which is now at total lifetime sales of 394,000 (with total sales for the Wii U and Switch version of the game being over 500,000 units).

The PS4 was the second highest selling system, with the 3DS being a close third place. Everything else continues to slump further- Japan is currently being held up by these three systems alone. Then again, given how well they are doing, I don’t think anyone can complain.
