Another week, and the Nintendo Switch continues to top the hardware charts in Japan, once again presumably selling through the entirety of its available stock. The Nintendo Switch sold 45,000 units last week in Japan, which was way ahead of the PS4, which only managed to sell 30,000 units. The PS4 was also outsold by the 3DS, which sold 33,000 units in this same period.
The six year old (and counting) 3DS was buoyed by the recently released Monster Hunter XX, which continues to top the software charts on its end. While the game had a relatively disappointing debut, it sold 127,000 units last week, bringing its total sales in Japan to 1.2 million units. New PS4 releases Warrior Stars and Blue Reflection round out the top three, with new 3DS release Mario Sports Superstars in fourth place. Breath of the Wild continues its extraordinary run by rounding out the Top 5.
So, while the software charts saw some shuffling because of new releases, it doesn’t seem like we saw any long lasting changes this week. For the time being, it seems as though the Japanese market has stabilized- and at least it stabilized in a far stronger position now than it was in a few years ago.
