Nintendo Switch and Super Mario Odyssey Dominate Japan Sales Charts In New Media Create Report

Who saw this coming?

As could have been expected by just about anyone, Super Mario Odyssey and the Nintendo Switch ended up topping the software and hardware sales charts in Japan this week. The Switch ended up selling almost 127,000 units last week, buoyed no doubt by the release of Super Mario Odyssey, which, in the highest debut for a 3D Mario game yet, sold 462,000 units, topping the charts in the process.

In fact, the Switch and Mario sold so much, that they sold more than all other items on their respective charts put together. On the hardware front, the PS4 came in second place with 24,000 units sold, with the 3DS rounding out the top three with 17,000 units sold.

On the software charts, ARK: Survival Evolved was second place, with 70,000 units sold; elsewhere, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 2, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe all also got boosts thanks to increased Switch sales.

It will be interesting to see what the state of the Japanese market looks like in the coming weeks.
