Nintendo Switch batteries are apparently manufactured by Amperex, which is the premier firm for batteries in mobile devices, according to The Wall Street Journal. Amperex supplies batteries to, among other firms, Apple with their iPhones, and also Samsung with their Galaxy devices.
Their batteries were also used in Galaxy Note 7 phones, as a replacement batch after the batteries in the first batch began to literally blow up. The replacement phones were also highly dangerous, and ultimately, it was determined that the phones were catching fire not because of a fault in the batteries, but because of a major design flaw in how the Note 7 was designed, which led to excessive pressure and short circuiting of the batteries- in other words, before you jump to conclusions, no, your Nintendo Switch will not blow up.
The Switch battery is also massive– it is the largest battery that Nintendo could have fit in there, actually. It is seriously impressive how much Nintendo decided to not cheap out on battery tech this time around, and almost makes the complaints regarding the Switch’s battery life seem quaint.
