Recently, it was revealed that Nintendo was selling dock-free version of the Switch handheld. That’s right – purchasing the Switch Dockless Bundle will cost 26,978 yen or about $246 USD approx. That’s a decent $50 saved off the current bundle price (the Switch costs about $295 in Japan).
However, even with the appeal that such a bundle could provide, Nintendo won’t be releasing it outside of Japan. US Gamer spoke to Nintendo of America and a representative said that there are “no plans to release this configuration in the Americas.”
Which is a shame, considering all the concerns at launch about the dock scratching screens and whatnot. However, releasing a different bundle for the Switch could be confusing for some consumers, especially since the Switch is roughly older than a year. Besides, this isn’t an Xbox One and Kinect situation where fans outright hated the dock to begin and wanted it gone.
The Switch Dockless Bundle only features the Nintendo Switch Gamepad, Joy-Con (Left and Right) and Joy-Con Grips (Left and Right). What are your thoughts on seeing it release outside of Japan? Let us know in the comments.
