Nintendo Switch Generated Record Sales in August in the US

Beating a record held by the Nintendo Wii since August 2008.

Though the PS4 and Xbox One are in the last stretches of their life, the Nintendo Switch is flying high, and that’s been reflected in its sales on a constant basis. Nintendo’s hybrid console has regularly been the highest selling console in the US on monthly basis, and so it was once more in August, as per the data released by the NPD Group (via GamesBeat).

In fact, the Switch also broke hardware sales records for any August month in the US to date, generating record hardware dollar sales. While doing so, it broke the record previously held by the Nintendo Wii since August 2008. The Switch’s unit sales have also doubled as compared to last year.

Overall hardware spending in the US for the month of August was also healthy, bolstered by the Switch’s performance. Hardware spending for the month stood at $229 million, representing a 37% year-over-year growth from August 2019. Meanwhile, year-to-date hardware spending is also up 23% year-over-year and currently stands at $2 billion.

Meanwhile, on the software side of things, Madden NFL 21 and EA Sports UFC 4 were the big performers for the month. Read more on that through here.
