Nintendo Switch Lifetime Sales Hit 55.77 Million Units

Nintendo's hybrid continues to post strong sales.

Nintendo have updated the worldwide sales figures for the Nintendo Switch during their recent quarterly financial briefing, and have confirmed that the console has now sold 55.77 million units to date, up from 52.48 million shipments at the end of 2019.

3.29 million units of the Switch were sold worldwide throughout the quarter, of which 1 million were Switch Lite models, and the remaining 2.27 million were the regular Switch hardware. In total, Nintendo sold 21.03 million Switch units across the financial year (April 2019 – March 2020). Meanwhile, a total of 168.72 million Switch software units were moved across that period. Both hardware and software sales show a year-over-year increase, with the former being up by 24 per cent, and the latter by 42.3 per cent.

For the coming fiscal year, Nintendo’s projections peg sales of 19 million units of Switch sales across FY 2021 (ending March 31, 2021), while software sales projections for that same period stand at 140 million units.

Of late, Nintendo has been facing stock shortages for the Switch due to production and distribution issues brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. Nintendo states that “delays in production and shipping are gradually recovering,” but also notes that if the situation is prolonged or worsens further still, “it may disrupt the product supply.”
