Nintendo Switch Tops Charts Again In Slow Week For Japanese Game Sales

Nintendo games continue to leg it out, too.

Another Wednesday, another round of Japanese video game hardware and software numbers courtesy of Media Create. As was anticipated, this last week was, again, a particularly slow one- so nothing eventful actually happened.

On the hardware front, the Switch tops charts again, predictably enough, with 33,000 units sold- almost double that of the PS4, which sold just shy of 17,000 units. The 3DS, meanwhile, continues its decline, with only 6,200 units sold.

As for the software front, the PS4 version of the just released The Caligula Effect: Overdose topped charts (the Vita version did not even chart). Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze held on to second place, while other major mainstays in the charts- Splatoon 2, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Kirby: Star Allies, Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Pokken, ARMS, and Pokemon Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon– all placed, too. On a related note, Monster Hunter World is now out of the Top 20, having exhibited shorter legs than previous games in the series in Japan.

For now, we can continue sales in Japan to remain depressed going into the Summer months.
