Nintendo Switch Version 5.0.1 is Available to Download Now, Does Absolutely Nothing

Guess what kind of an update this is, folks.

Right on the heels of firmware update version 5.0.0, Nintendo has released version 5.0.1 for the Switch. But where 5.0.0 was a(n arguably) major update, adding some new functions to the console, 5.0.1 is… not. It does absolutely nothing. I’m not even joking.

The official patch notes for the update say that it is a “stability” update, which, of course, at this point is euphemism for an update having been made to fix some security loopholes and exploits behind the scenes. But the average Switch user won’t see anything actually different on their system with this update—well, nothing other than them having to actually update to it if they want to play online, or access the eShop.

While I understand the need for security updates (as well as, of course, actually patching out some bugs that have gone undetected, but could be an issue), hopefully, the next Switch update actually adds some of the many features that are missing from the system, and that they could stand to add to it.
