Nintendo Switch Will Be Priced According To Customer Expectation, Nintendo Says

But Nintendo won't sell it at loss.

It doesn’t look like Nintendo is keen on repeating the mistakes that it made with the Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS, both of which were priced far too high for their market at launch. The Switch, Nintendo’s President Tatsumi Kimishima said at the company’s latest financial briefing, will be priced according to customer expectation. Quick, everyone, expect it to be $100!

Of course, he also added that Nintendo will not sell the Switch at a loss- this means that its pricing is likely to fall into a very narrow bracket where customer expectations and Nintendo’s own cost per unit overlap. I’m personally going to stand by my earlier prediction, and say that this thing will be $299 (with maybe an optional $349 SKU, which has the Pro Controller bundled). Any higher than $299 for a base SKU, and Nintendo will be sending the Switch out to die.

The Nintendo Switch is due out worldwide in March 2017.
