Nintendo Switch’s Upcoming Budget Model Won’t Support Docks – Rumour

It will also be tougher and more "kid-proof", according to sources in a recent report.

After a report by Nikkei last year, more information emerged recently about the rumoured new models of the Nintendo Switch courtesy of The Wall Street Journal. We already know that one model will have enhanced features meant for more hardcore players, while the other will be more portable. Sources close to Eurogamer have now confirmed the recent rumours, but also revealed some new details.

These sources revealed that the budget-friendly Switch will be sturdier and essentially “kid-proof.” In order to drive down costs, it seems that this model will have certain features removed, like the ability to connect it to one’s TV screen via the dock. It will only be usable in handheld mode.

It was also reaffirmed that the more powerful Switch model won’t be getting a substantial performance bump. Instead, it will be more akin to the New Nintendo 3DS’s spec upgrade over the regular 3DS. At the very least, it looks to still support docking. The new Nintendo Switch models are slated to release by this Summer, but stay skeptical – we won’t know Nintendo’s plans until the company outright confirms them.
