Success is all that matters though. Look at how Apple can simply sell a new phone with spec upgrades, but people gotta have it. Maybe Nintendo should innovate on their online structure cause it's awful. Innovation/Gimmicks only go so far. Think the Wii left a bad taste in people's mouths. It sold cause of an innovative gimmick but got played the least amount

Completely missing the point... none of that is actually anything new - it is all good stuff and yes Nintendo lacks 3rd party, same old. The point is that Nintendo are trying new directions rather than just doing predictable upgrades. Whether it is a success or not is beside the point, we all know commercially the Wii U has done awfull but that is a sad situation. They deserve merit not hate.

People these days have an unhealthy obsession with the basic specs and physical dimensions of any device they hold - the gamepad was in development a long time and quickly became dated before even launch, plus keeping pricing in mind (the gamepad adds a lot to the cost of the console) and of course giving us something to hold onto with buttons. A lighter gamepad would be the best improvement. Had the Wii U been successful I'm pretty sure we would have seen a more slender and light redesign.

Summary: This isn't an attack on other consoles, they are powerful evolutions but stop being so mean about interesting consoles, it's incredibly narrow minded and short sighted to scoff at the Wii U/Nintendo and so on,

Let's see Xbox Kinect is used on more than a console. They use the cloud for games.. Crackdown 3. Stream to your PC. Bringing more games to PC. Nintendo... A clunky controller that doesn't use the screen enough. Oh and huge lack of 3rd party support.

"Nintendo’s Executive Vice President Scott Moffitt"

There, now you know. You could have just read the article for that, but whatever. Do you expect to only get news from Reggie or Miyamoto?

I don't really agree with that at all. Touch screen gaming has been done a lot, and Nintendo's own DS line does touch screen gaming AND dual screen gaming. It's not so much innovative as it is different than the competition. In my opinion, the PS4's share button is a real innovation. It doesn't affect gameplay, but it really does change your experience with video games when it's so easy to capture and share your adventures.

Bought one for daughter a few years back. No interest in it for me. Last year she wanted an got an Xbox since most of her girlfriends game online on Live. Being innovative doesn't really matter unless people buy your console, and most gamers, devs, retail chains have ignored the Wiiu. As far as the PS4 & X1 being slightly more powerful than the previous machines, well, that is all I wanted, so I ham happy with those.

The way I understand "innovation" is as something new that actually sets a new standard in its field and leads the change for the future of similar products to come. Just being different for the sake of itself is hardly changing the game. Mario 64 was some innovation, gaming was never the same after that. But I guess people don't like to hear anything but positivity about Nintendo. No room for constructive criticism.
