Nioh 2 Confirmed for Tokyo Game Show 2019, New Key Art Released

The action RPG will have a brand new consumer demo at TGS 2019.

Team Ninja’s Nioh 2 may have had a closed alpha around May end for PS4 but things have been fairly quiet since then. Thankfully, creative director Tom Lee has provided an update on the PlayStation Blog and confirmed the sequel’s presence at Tokyo Game Show 2019. New key art for the protagonist has also been released.

Though players can customize the protagonist this time around, there’s still a backstory. You’re essentially a half-breed – part human and part Yokai, which explains the ability to transform into a demon – and will travel Japan during the Sengoku era. There are teases of our hero venturing into the Dark Realm of the Yokai, which wasn’t showcased in too much depth in the first game. Lee also noted that over 50,000 players took part in the previous closed alpha.

“The overwhelming majority of opinions were very positive and supportive of the demo as we received tons of comments and constructive feedback for us to analyze. And since then, we have been hard at work to process all of that data and make the necessary adjustments to create an even more exceptional experience. Thanks again to everyone who participated in the alpha demo survey. We can’t wait to share the progress with you guys!”

There will be a new consumer demo at Tokyo Game Show and Lee promised that there would be more information “will definitely be coming down the pipe soon.” Tokyo Game Show 2019 is scheduled for September 12th to 15th. As for Nioh 2, it’s currently in development for PS4 and doesn’t yet have a release window.
