Well I wasn't talking about the time frame of the game's storyline when I mentioned Halo. I was talking about the the social ramifications of giving players the choice of whether they want to play as male or female.

I can understand wanting to focus on the game and cutting down on in-game aspects when you're running on a tight budget, but if Pandemic Studios could get it right on the Zero engine in 2004, then DICE should be able to handle it with the Frostbite 3 engine it in 2013 (I'm specifically talking about Star Wars: Battlefront). I'm not saying I want to see a female version of every playable class (though that would be awesome!), I just want to see one - like the Rebel Marksman.

Halo takes place 500 years in the future and if they do have Female soliders in the SP (Hanna and the chopper pilots) and lastly if they did it for Multiplayer they'd have to record hundreds of pieces of dialogue for them in multiplayer, add additional animation, and all that.

I'm not saying it's much of an excuse. I think they should have them in the game considering the United States of all places has finally opened up legally front-line combat roles for females.

But also in addition, they want to focus on the game. Not start wars over the roles of woman. They said similar things about why you couldn't shoot civilians in BF3.

I hate it. This was the main thing I was hoping to see in Battlefield 4, and could easily be the deciding factor as to whether or not I actually get it.

If a game series as masculine as Gears of War (I'm no fan) can have multiple playable female characters, Battlefield should be able to handle having just as many (if not more). I have trouble thinking of a good reason why a developer as talented and out-going as DICE hasn't already made this adjustment. The same could be said about EA. Sure a lot of people only look at the things EA does that they don't like/agree with, but EA has a commendable record when it comes to controversial social issues. Why EA would decide to rally behind LGBT gamers/game characters in titles like Mass Effect or Dragon Age and not rally behind something as simple as implementing (playable) female soldiers in Battlefield doesn't make since to me - especially when 44% of gamers are female. I can understand not being able to play a female soldier in the campaign if it doesn't fit the storyline, but multiplayer is different. Why can't I play as MY soldier? It only makes me identify with (and want to play the game) more. I mean seriously. In Halo we've been able to play as female spartans (and ODST's) for almost seven years now, and there have been female soldiers on the frontline for almost ten!
