While the Nintendo Switch 2 will allow players to use one of its Joy-Con 2 controllers as a mouse for supported games, it looks like the console will also support regular off-the-shelf mice as well. In a new video showcasing gameplay for the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening Complete Edition, Koei Tecmo has revealed that players can simply plug in a regular USB mouse to play the strategy game.
In the video, producer Michi Ryu was showcasing how Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening on the Switch 2 benefits from having mouse-styled controls through the Joy-Con 2. Ryu also revealed that players can switch between mouse-styled controls and regular controller-styled controls by simply hitting the SL button. Ultimately, Ryu also simply plugged in a regular mouse into the Switch 2 through a USB port to continue playing.
It is worth noting that the Joy-Con 2 while being used in mouse mode benefits from having all the extra keys, since Ryu showcased a few shortcuts that can be used throughout the game, like speeding up and slowing down time. These shortcuts were designed to make the gameplay flow better, and Ryu has described the mouse-styled controls as being similar to what we’ve seen in the game’s PC release.
Nintendo confirmed the Joy-Con 2’s mouse capabilities back when it revealed more details about the Switch 2 during its Direct in April. During the Direct, the company also revealed game made specifically for the mouse feature – a multiplayer wheelchair-bound basketball game titled Drag x Drive. The game makes use of two Joy-Con 2 controllers being used as mice, which can then be dragged on a surface to emulate pushing a wheelchair. The game will be a competitive 3-on-3 title, and is slated for release this year.
In the meantime, other titles will also support the mouse capabilities of the Switch 2’s controllers, including the upcoming Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Gameplay showcased for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond during one of Nintendo’s Treehouse: Live streams showed off how players can use Joy-Con 2 controller in mouse mode in order to get better accuracy for the first-person adventure game. Switching to mouse mode will be seamless in the game, with players simply having to place a Joy-Con 2 flat on a surface to start.
Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition will also allow players to make use of mouse mode for more precision in its first-person combat encounters. The game will also come with support for other Switch 2 features, including a gyroscope mode that can allow even greater accuracy once a player gets used to the control scheme. “We are delighted to bring the immersive world of the dark future to Nintendo players for the first time,” said game director Adam Badowski. “Thanks to the Nintendo Switch 2 system, you can transport yourself to the City of Dreams at home or on the go.”
The Nintendo Switch 2 will be hitting store shelves on June 5, along with a host of launch titles like Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition and Mario Kart World.
