The NPD Group’s software sales for April 2017 in the United States are in. Though it already reported that Mario Kart 8 was the best-selling game of the month, thus propelling the Nintendo Switch to become the best-selling console, Persona 5 also had a fairly strong run.
It placed second in the charts and NPD analyst Mat Piscatella said that it witnessed “the strongest debut month for any title in Persona franchise history, with packaged dollar sales five times that of the previous best-selling debut, Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4.”
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is in third place followed by MLB 17: The Show, Ghost Recon: Wildlands and Grand Theft Auto 5. Mass Effect: Andromeda was in seventh place, which is kind of disappointing since it released at the tail-end of March. NBA 2K17 is in eighth while Overwatch hit ninth place (not including PC digital sales) and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 came in 10th.
Though Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 actually outsold Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (which is in 11th place), the former recently went backwards compatible on Xbox One. This prompted a rush of players to jump back into the game.
